Witness to the Wound
Dissociative Amnesia impacts a very few amount of people, affecting an estimate of about 1.8% people each year worldwide. Aiming to protect the victim, it blocks the memories of a traumatic event from their mind, allowing them peace. However, this does not always last forever, when memories resurface, it leaves that person feeling lost and confused, in some cases there will be feelings of guilt and helplessness.
There are survivors amongst us who fight battles within their own mind. The strength required to do this is immense, yet they persevere. In recognising this, we acknowledge the impact of trauma on an individual, and the courage it takes to overcome the nightmares of their past.
